Approach

At Chesterfield our approach to therapy is integrative. This is a flexible and adaptable approach that combines elements of different therapeutic theories and techniques to meet the unique needs of each client. Integrative therapy draws from various approaches such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic, and existential, and integrates them into a cohesive and personalised treatment plan.

Our goal is to provide a holistic and comprehensive approach to therapy that takes into account the client’s thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. We emphasise the therapeutic relationship, the therapist collaborates with the client to explore and understand their concerns, identify patterns and underlying issues, and develop strategies for change and growth.

What to expect

You may be nervous attending therapy for the first time. This is completely normal and knowing what to expect can help.

When you arrive at the practice you can walk upstairs and take a seat in the waiting area. Your therapist will meet you here at the scheduled time. At the first session we will take some of your details, explain our confidentiality agreement, and outline our working practices regarding scheduling, fees, cancellation fees and method of payment.  Once this has been completed and you are settled into the room we will have an opportunity to discuss the presenting issue.

This preliminary session affords us the opportunity to understand your difficulties, to establish your goals and most importantly, for you to feel that we are a good fit. This first session typically takes 60 minutes, future sessions will be the standard “therapeutic hour” of 50 minutes.
